Now on Tap

The House of Bob recently acquired a kegerator while yard-sailing. A steal at $25 USD, it came with a 5lb tank of CO2 and regulator, a stainless half-barrel, and a fridge thermometer. It has a some Terrible Faux Wood Grain Detailing, but I’m planning on modernizing it a little. The corrosion on the chrome tap tower cleaned up surprisingly well on the buffing wheel. I needed to have the CO2 tanks hydrotested and refilled and replace all the tubing, but otherwise it was ready to go. I just kegged a batch of Porter and it is cooling down in the kegerator at press time. I’ll also be able to do lagering with a few modifications. The unit is currently relegated to the garage, but I’m planning on sneaking it into the house when no one is looking…
The stainless half-barrel is another project – The Keggle (Keg Kettle)- This will allow me to boil wort in 10 gal batches, twice what I’m doing now. I already had my local metal shop cut the top out with a plasma cutter. Now I need to get my hands on a ball-valve drain and weld that in, or optionally put in a bulkhead version of the same. But that is another post so stay tuned…
